We
flew in and out of Casablanca. It was described to me as being a
'shit-hole,' and I found this to be quite true. It's understandable
as it's not really a touristy or residential city, but the heart of
business in the country. Much like the movie, people only stay a
little while and can't wait to get out. The only redeeming part of
Casablanca is the Hassan II Mosque. It is one of the only Mosques in
Morocco which allows tourists in. And to answer everyone's
question.... yes, we did watch the movie before we went. We took a
total of 4 planes over the course of the trip and we began almost
every flight with “here's to looking at you, kid.”
Luckily,
we only stayed in Casablanca for a few hours and were off that afternoon for Marrakesh.
On the train we met a really cool guy named Simo.We talked for about
5 hours on our way to Marrakesh and learned a lot about Moroccan people, culture, and life.
