Bala! Bala!

Today we left Sorrento to visit a buffalo farm. Why buffalo? Well, one of the best types of mozzarella cheese in Italy is made from buffalo milk, and known as “mozzarella di buffala” (emphasis on the 'u'). The buffalo mozzarella cheese was great, but the gelato from their milk was even better. It tasted just like regular gelato, but was much thicker.

Massages! These buffalo have it made!

After the buffalo farm we went to Paestum, an important archeological site recognized by UNESCO. It was founded by the Greeks, occupied by the Lucanians, taken over by the Romans, and finally utilized by Christians in the middle ages.

This is the inside of a tomb from an important figure in the community. The inside of the tomb was decorated with pictures from the person inside's life, their hobbies, interests, and accomplishments. I liked this picture because it shows the person diving into the afterlife.
Three famous temples:

Temple of Hera

Temple of Neptune

Temple of Ceres- actually dedicated to Athena, but was made into a church in the middle ages. Inspired writers, poets, and artists like Goethe, Shelley, and some others I have never heard of.

Later that night we were free to wander around Sorrento. I did some shopping and after a delicious, traditional Napoleon dinner complete with dancing, opera, and those awkward moments when they make people in the audience participate I wound up at a small bar really close to the hotel. It was filled with locals (which I am learning is the only way to go if you want the best), and live music. The band played Wonderwall, and then some Blues Brothers where the handful of Chicagoans went cray for. It was a really great atmosphere filled with drinks, appetizers, singing, dancing, and good company.

I ended the night at a local discoteca which ended up being filled with JFRC students. It was fun, and reminded me of our local bar on campus- Hamiltons RIP.
