Isla Tiberina

Today I explored the small island on the Tiber river called Isla Tiberina. It was recommended to me by my archaeology teacher (who is quite the character!). According to him there is a legend of an ancient tree on the island that is the birthplace of Rome. There is also an area of the island that has functioned as a hospital since the third century where there about 4,000 babies born every year.

Man playing an accordian on the bridge onto the island. (really set the mood!)

The one and only piazza on the island.
